I have IE 6 on Win 98. Keep getting a popup that says IE has encountered an error and will close. I checked the details and here was the message. IE 6 cannot be repaired due to the following errors:
Version 6.0.2722.900 of file mshtml.dll exists but the version needs to be greater than 6.0.2800.1100. It also listed shdoclc, shdocvw, urlmon and wininet and they all said the same thing. How do I fix this?

    Hi.

I think your best bet is to go to Windows update and upgrade to IE 6.0 SP1. That should fix the problem and update your dlls.

    Hi.

The only thing I can suggest at the moment is to reinstall IE on top of itself, as it sounds like some of its files have become corrupted.

    mtwilco--
    1) If you can, download and install the latest Cumulative patch for IE. (That should give you an even later version than 6.0.2800.1100 for these .dll files.)
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/q324929/default.asp
    2) If that did not work or you cannot access the site, Repair Internet Explorer. Control Panel|Add/Remove|scroll to Microsoft Internet Explorer|highlight|Click Add/Remove|check the box "Repair Internet Explorer "|click OK|wait.
    3) If that does not work, have you tried doing a Find for each of those files named in the error message? Do you have two copies of each? What versions? (Right click and click Properties, then the Version tab.)
If you have a copy of both versions mentioned, in which directory are they? If it is not already there, put the more recent one in C:\Windows\System folder. (If the older version is also in that folder, rename the extension from .dll to .old. That will allow you to run a while and see if all is OK, before you delete.)
