Without becoming emotional about the subject (as some will do) I'm curious about the secure nature of OE is compared to Thunderbird, Mozilla email, Opera email, Eudora and so forth. Is it any less secure? If so, can it be "tightened up" to make it as secure as these other email clients?

I'd like to ask the same of IE but I'll leave that for another thread.

    Thanks.

What do you mean by secure? All email is by its nature unsecured. It is like sending a post card which can be read by anyone along its path.
The client you use to access and read your email has nothing to do with this.
Encryption using PGP or similar public/private key encryption would make it as secure as the encryption program used.

If you are referring to exploits such as buffer overflows and html code executions, viruses etc, well that really is a seperate issue. First, OE is patched through windows updates when a flaw is found. Other programs , in general , you have to download a new version to patch a flaw . It is rare for other developers to go as far as microsoft and release patches for their software, most just wait until they have a new version ready for release and patch the hole in the new release and expect you to upgrade to the latest version. So if you do not do this, you are far more vulnerable than if you stick to OE.

Thanks for the informed response. So, I take it you use OE as your email client. ;)
