I have Win 2K on my PC but the latest check for Win Updates suggested 8 critical updates, all of which seem to relate to Office 2007 and something called Capicom.

    The full list is :

    Microsoft CAPICOM
    Security Update for CAPICOM (KB931906)

    Microsoft Office 2007
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB936960)
Security Update for Microsoft Office system 2007 (KB951808)
Microsoft Office Compatibility Pack Service Pack 1 (SP1)
Security Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB954038)
Security Update for 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951596)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB951944)
Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB954326)

Why am I being offered updates which do not seem to apply to my OS?

Should I ignore them or install them?

Actually not that odd :) For reasons best known to MS computers with Office 2003 installed are offered the 2007 updates you note.

I have Office 2003 on this box and the updates for Office 2007 - in some way they are intertwined. As I recall on my other computers which have Office 2007 installed I have updates for Office 2003 (confirmed although I also have Frontpage 2003 installed)

As far as CAPICOM is concerned that is another update I have - no doubt it is associated with some other MS offering that I have installed.

I would go ahead and install the updates - I guess you have Office 2003 installed - on the basis that you were offered them and that they will not install if inappropriate to your setup.

Interesting ............. and slightly comforting to know that I don't have the only PC affected in this way.

However, I do not have Office 2003 installed so I am still a bit baffled.

I do have Office 2000, Excel 2000, Word 2000 etc but nothing related to Office 2003.

That's probably the reason you are offered the updates - I mentioned 2003 as that is the earliest version I have running.

Advice is still to install the updates - they are, in a sense, generic.
