I have Win XP Home and am using Netscape 7.02 Streamline. I also have Zone Alarm installed. On two occasions, the second today, Zone Alarm has alerted me that Object:80000838 is trying to access the internet, and I denied access. I did a search 'for all files and folders' on the computer and came up with only the Zone Alarm Log File showing the action. It wanted to connect to 127.0.0.1. I did a 'whois' search on Sam Spade and found that this address is the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority in Marina Del Rey CA. Now the question, what the heck is Object: 80000838 and what is it trying to obtain or report ?? I use Ad-Aware frequently so it's not spyware, or at least none that Ad-Aware recognizes.

127.0.0.1 is localhost---your computer. So it is not trying to connect to the internet.

See if anywhere in ZA you may be able to get details on the process.

ZA indicates that it is the 'Generic host process for Win32 Services, and it was definitely outbound.

There's a good explanation of XP's "Generic host process for Win32 Services" on Black Viper's site.

Also, if you haven't visited his list of XP service with recommendations about which to disable, which to set at manual and which to leave on automatic, have a look here. Going through the list is a little tedious but the performance benefits are well worth it.

Thanks guys, good info, perhaps more than I need to know. I guess this is something that I can ignore?? Based upon your info, should I let "Object 80000838' access the internet for what ever reason it is trying to ??

It's safe and may be necessary depending on what you do.
