Yes the config looks OK to me!

Oh I am sorry I didn't understand this!

No don't bother if you are going to reformat!

I thought you were looking at trying not to have to do that! And if you were, you ought to use Partition magic to resize the drives as you want.

But maybe you have other reasons to format. What is your end goal?

Since you have these other partitions if you found significant junk as in my last post and removed it. Then relocate the pagefile and My Documents to another drive then you may have suffecient free space on c:.

The My Documents ought to be on another drive anyway because the OS Boot drive is the most likely to be come inoperatable in the case of a virus or other severe event.

    Good luck!

    I'll be here!

does it help at all having the pagefile on another drive apart from saving space? (what exactly is the pagefile?)

ill stick my documents on the other drive for that reason u said. but how do i do it so windows knows its been moved instead of creating a new my documents folder on c drive everytime.

and im reformatting cuz i like to do it now and then to get rid of the junk i dont knows there. i just like things 2 run smooth. and by having the 2nd drive i can stick my files on there easily and safely (spelling).

ill be installing xp pro sp2. is there any tips you can give me to make everything run smooth. i.e pagefile size dependent on... anything. removing services that ppl talk about and how. cheers!

Yes it has helps performance if on another physical drive. Not any difference if on another partition of the boot drive.

The optimal would to put it on another physical drive by itself which would preclude fragmentation.

Still it would not be a noticable performance increase on a day to day. But it would be there. You need to remember that it is many of these types of tweaks that add up to a noticable gain.

    As for moving My Documents:

Right click on the My Documents folder - Properties - Move browse My Computer and choose the drive you want to move it to.

No Steve don't clear it everytime just ocassionally as a routine maintenance item.

Or in the case of some unknown problem or a virus incident.

Best way is to use XpAntiSpy witten for XP but works for 2K

    http://www.webattack.com/get/xpantispy.shtml

Item help here is good chose what you do and do not want.
But do check "Clear pagefile on shutdown.

    BUT!

After the first reboot after you run XPAntiSpy go back to XpAntiSpy and uncheck the clear Pagefile at shutdown, as we only want to clear it once.

i was thinking of buying say... a 20gb HD for the OS
then i can use my 30gb drive for storage, inc my documents.

mayb pagefile or i could get a small drive i have sitting around aprox 5gb and use that for the pagefile.. this meaning id have 3 drives

    20gb OS
    30gb Storage
    5gb pagefile

    would that be anygood?

i dont know what 2 do with my current drives otherwise. as 13.gb is gettin abit full (2% odd free)

OS drive is only half full with 13gb odd

    i thought about swapping the drives but this brought up some problems;

    1) 13gb isnt big enough for the windows drive if my current size is basically that.
    2) moving all my files from 13gb drive to the 30gb drive

Unless you are going to by some new offbrand, or used or discontinued HD then the dif between 40 and 80G is just a few dollars like to 15.00 more.

I would not put the pagefile on that old of, slow as, 5g HD.
