Working on my dad's home built Windows 7 desktop system. He turned it off at night then the next day there was nothing showing on the monitor. I have tried the following:
    Swapped monitor.
    Swapped video card.
    Swapped power supply.
    Changed the battery.
Took out and reseated all hardware connected to motherboard.
You can hear it power up.
    All the fans are working.
Lights on the case and CD-ROM light up.
If you take the cable off the video card you get the warning box come up on the monitor to check cable.
    What else could I try?

Ram problems can have the same effect, like faulty ram.
Sometime though with faulty ram you will get a continuous beep - beep from the Motherboard but not always.

Yes, I took out the ram and then put it back in. I am going to change the motherboard. After looking at it the VIA chip is very sticky and is not smooth. The rest of the chips on the board are not. I am thinking the chip got fried some how. If that does not work I post back. Thanks for your help.

Just thought I would let you know what the problem was. It was the AGP slot on the motherboard. Before I changed the motherboard I took out the AGP card and put in a PCI video card and everything works fine now.
