I'm new to notebooks and I have a Toshiba M45-S269. With my Desktop Computer I have cable Internet and would leave my computer on from the time I would power up until I was ready to quit at night. What's the general ''rule'' regarding notebooks when attached to AC power. I've been turning it on and off several times a day after each usage. Any input would be appreciated.

P.S. I have wireless broadband for my notebook. I can disconnect from the Internet and Power Off the notebook card when not using the Internet.

I used my notebook as my "desktop" for the past year and would never shut it down when connected to the ac power when at home. I use power mgmt to shut off the monitor after 20 minutes.

Presently, I am using a desktop pc again at home and always shut down the notebook at end of day when it's being used. I did have to send it out for a MB & built in wireless replacement recently, so what I do now is always shut it down when not being used.

My thinking is that if turned on and not being used, it still generates heat, and the prolonged heat will damage the components over time. Consider that when I left it "ON" all the time that 60% of the day it was not being used and was generating heat.

I've always turned off any pc when I'm not going to be using it for a "while."

I always worry about those little five dollar fans quitting when I'm not around.

My notebook's power management which came factory preset, is set to go into hibernation when the lid is closed. I had been closing out all applications, disconnecting from the Internet and closing the lid (hibernation).
