not success. windows setup

    I have problem.

    I need renew, full install windows xp,

    used Ext.CDROM device BOOT and install

    but I think is that CDROM device problem, is can't read file (from 50% smss.exe..)

    in begin SETUP, copy main files to install. NOT windows layout
    tell me:
    retry. enter
    skip, ESC
    end, F3


    how to fix it?

    possible used USB Flash Drive, copy all I386 to Flash drive, if again can't read file from CDROM.
    used Flash to complete it?

    If I understand you correctly Windows Setup copies 50% of the files and then stops at smss.exe?

    The most likely cause is a dirty or scratched CD - clean it carefully rubbing gently from the centre to the outside (radially) not circumferentially - in a circular motion around the disk.

    Then try again.

    It is possible to install XP from a Flash Drive - there is a tutorial here ....

    I have not used this method so if you run into problems it is unlikely that I can help further.
