I have windows XP and Norton 2004. It scans my outgoing emails when I have already unchecked that box. I have dial-up and if I send pictures it takes soooo long to scan them, sometimes time out error occurs. I see no need to have a picture I have taken scanned, or for that matter any other outgoing mail when I take all the necessary precautions and do live updates, virus scans and everything else regularly. Is anybody else of the same opinion? After unchecking the "scan outgoing" box why does it still do that?

According to This Symantec article, sounds like you should uncheck both.

If you try that and it still scans stuff, try customer support at Symantec. They may well have a 'fix' available.

The "scan time" on my computer ranges from 2 to 4 seconds for 250 kb to 1 meg .jpg's. I'm not sure, but I believe this is done prior to connecting / sending to the server.
