ant: Is the noise literally a buzzing sound, or is it more like a muted rattling? Does it occur only during the booting up process, or is it constant as long as your computer is on? And is the noise a recent development, or has it always been there? Some noise from the HDD is normal, so we need to find out first if what you're hearing is a normal or abnormal sound.

Get back to us and give us a little more information about your system. That would help make it easier for us to more accurately determine just what the probem is, if there really is one.

It is only when starting up startup. When the batt was low it went to bios startup. I think it is still related to that. Is a mutered intermitant buzing startup only. After then its ok.

    Hi ant

Not sure why there would be a buzz coming from the HD. Any possibility when changing the battery you disrupted the fan on the processor... or wire, cable coming in contact with that fan or any other fan? IF noise IS coming from HD, best start backing up vital files.

ant: The normal noises for a HDD to make during startup are muted rattling or clattering sounds. They occur anytime the HDD is unloading a bunch of stuff into or out of RAM, such as during startup or when loading a large program. But you say it's a buzzing sound, right?

If you are hearing a buzzing or humming sound, though, I'm wondering now if it could be from a fan. Have you opened your unit's case to pinpoint exactly where the noise is coming from?

Since you submitted your post to the Win XP forum, I assume your computer is fairly new. Can you get back to us with a little more information about it? That might help.
