This is a fresh clean install of Win 8.1 retail.

I have no sound when playing a DVD. I have windows classic and VLC installed.

I uninstalled the sound driver and rebooted. No help.

I installed K-lite codec pack. No help.

Hi Bill. Do you hear sound from the DVD if you play it in Windows Media Player?

Do other video files play with no problems? Which version of the K-Lite Codec Pack did you install?

The latest version of k-lite, 10.9.5
I just plugged my earphones into the earphon jack and I have sound now.

I get nothing from the speaker jack in the back of the computer.
    Thanks for your help...

Ok then. Do you want to try and get the speaker jack working or are you satisfied with the conclusion of this thread?

Since it works with headphones, your sound works. But it is not correct if sound does not flip to your speakers when you unplug the headphones.

In Control Panel > Sound, do you see Speakers? If so, click on Speakers to highlight then click the Set Default button and see (listen for) what happens.
