I have a Toshiba Satellite running Windows XP, with a new hard drive installed (40 GB, bought at Fry's, don't know what make). Ever since I installed the thing my audio output's gone.

The volume control icon is missing as well, and I downloaded sndvol32.exe from http://www.relaxingsoftware.com/updatedfiles.htm, but now i get this error saying. 'Audio device not working. Open Control Panel and select Printers and other Hardware and click on Add New Hardware'.

I dont know what my driver is either, so I downloaded this little app which tells you all your drivers.

For Win Audio I have no entry
    For PCI/ I have Intel82801DB(M)
And a bunch of Audio and Video Codecs.

I don't have the CDs for my driver.

    Help!

Need to go to Toshiba's web site and get the files if you don't have the original lappy cd.

    Re- No Sound

    I agree with Steve.

You probably installed the retail version of windows on the new drive, minus the toshiba drivers.
    You can download driver here

Keep in mind sound drivers must match the hardware id of the 82801DB to the *.inf file of the driver, making it difficult to find the correct one.

Try the link first, then Steve's advice at Toshiba's website.
