Apologies if this is the wrong place to ask.

I am having problems retrieving a website directory from the web server. I am looking after a website for a local transport museum. I have successfully uploaded updates for a couple of years but in the last 18 months I have been dogged with connection issues. I bought a new laptop with Win 10 and have also had my Virgin broadband upgraded to 100mb and I'm using their hub 3.
On my old Win 7 laptop and cable router I had no problem. I use Kompozer as a page editor as it's a wysiwyg editor (I have no understanding of HTML whatsoever) and I transfer using Filezilla.
I can connect to the server but I can't retrieve the directory. I get timed out after 20 seconds.
Any help would be gratefully received

I am confused. You are having problems with one site and you are assuming the problem is on your end?

If you were having problem with multiple sites, then sure, you would be right to suspect your side of the things.

What is the site and we can see if it is just you?

The website is www.mtps.co.uk. I've spoken at length to the guy that hosts the site for us. We have the same model laptop, the same Virgin Broadband, we both use Filezilla and our settings are identical. He can connect in a second while I get a time out. I thought it might be my router blocking the return. I'm not that tech savvy at this point.

Can you try a different computer on your network? Can you take your computer to a friend's or relative's house and try it there?

I note there is only an http connection and not a secure https connection. Have you tried a different browser?

Verify the ftp configs are correct.
And check windows firewall to verify filezilla is allowed in and out.

    Hi Tony,
This is where my limited knowledge fails me. I have verified all my server log in details. Filezilla is allowed in and out through the frewall. I can connect to the server but I can't retrieve the file from the server to up date it, I get a timeout.

I may have inadvertently confused you. It's not the site in my browser I am having problems with. I need to connect to a web server to be able to update the website. I can connect to the server but when retrieving the files from the server my connection times out.

Have you tried switching between Active and Passive mode?

Easily done but I'm following this time. Trying your computer on a different network would eliminate a setting in your router. Trying a different computer would eliminate a setting in your computer.

In Filezilla > FTP settings > Send FTP keep-alive commands.

Also, it looks like this is the hosting company:
    acewebstudio.com

Ask them if they have cPanel. If so you can login to cPanel & use its File Manager to upload & download server files.
