No Desktop icon's

    I just installed XP on a new hard drive. I don't have any icons on the screen except recycle bin. I open the desktop file and their there. This is probably a stupid question but I've done this on other machines and never lost my icons, how do I get them on the screen where they belong?

    Welcome to WindowsBBS Budwat61 :)

    Odd that only the recycle bin would be showing :confused: Right click the desktop and point to Arrange Icons By, then toggle 'Show Desktop Icons' off and back on. Select Properties>Desktop tab>Customize Desktop button, then check which items you want an icon for.

    If you send a shortcut to the desktop, is it visible? Do the items in the desktop folder have hidden attributes?
