Ok I have searched to the end of the internet and I can't find this one. :D :D

    XP Pro Laptop P4 Arcitecture.

Select shutdown or Restart (doesnt matter) and machine does nothing. It's like you never asked it to shut down. Screen doesnt go grey or anything. You can keep working like you never asked it to shut down.

I removed all PCMCIA and USB devices and it doesnt make any diffrence.
Only way to kill it is hold the power button down.

I have been to the XP Shutdown Trouble Shooter but this symptom isnt mentioned.

Try these two and see if either/both are effective. The results should help in tracking down the issue.

start~run~shutdown -s (should force an orderly shutdown)
    start~run~shutdown -r (should force a reboot)
