I recently purchased a Benq T701 lcd monitor to use with my Compaq Presario 5441, running Windows 98. The previous monitor that was connected was a NEC MultiSync 70. All I did was remove the NEC an plug in the T701, powered up the Compaq and the display worked, (no "new hardware to add" message appeared). When I set the "Displey Properties ", the "Settings" tab shows "Display NEC MultiSync 70 on SiS530 ".

Every once in awhile when I'm surfing the Net, I go to web site, different one each time, then T701 goes dark and a BENQ message box appears in the center of the screen saying " ! Out of Range ", I hit the "Backspace Key" and the image reappears, but the "! Out of Range" message will appear again but at a later web site. I then have to reboot the computer and to start surfing again. I have two ISP's, that this happens so it's not the ISP.
    1. What does this message mean?
    2. Can you instruct me (or locate a procedure) on how to add this device to my machine?
    3. Do I need to download a device driver, the BENQ site doesn't show a driver for the T701 (how and where do I down load it to?)

As you can tell I am not a sophistcated user. So I need all the help I can get.
    Thank you
    Fran W.

"out of range" is dangerous to your monitor. Go to ctrl panel > display > settings tab and then advanced button and adapter tab and set your frequency to the lowest at your resolution. The resolution should be less than or equal to 1280 X 1024 at 60 hz .

Hi and welcome to the BBS,

Also, you should remove the drivers for the NEC monitor, so that it does not run the monitor on the wrong ones.
Go to Control Panel -> System -> Device Manager, expand the monitor listing (click the +). Highlight any monitors listed and click the Remove button.
When you reboot, Windows should identify the monitor. Since Benq do not have drivers, Windows should identify it as a "Plug and Play" monitor. If you need to select it from the "List" (the radio button "Do not search for the best drivers for my hardware, I will select it from the list ") and find the Plug and Play monitor under the "standard monitors" heading.
