    New Laptop For Friend

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a friend that wants a very quality laptop and does not mind spending the money . My question is what company would you people recommend?? Seems like some people a while back really liked the Dell and Toshiba Laptop. I think he will want to use this machine on a wireless netwok in the future he also wants one with a 17 Inch screen, so would like to hear some of your ideas on which si best. Do not think he really needs a great one but says he wants the best; he just is going to surf and get email with it but he is the one spending the money. Thanks for your replies, Gary

    garyl,

Toshiba makes a nice 17' screen laptop but my choice would be a Sony Viao it is a very nice machine allthough I have seen them run as as high as $2300.00 bucks for a wide screen. I use a Presario with a gig of ram and a WD external 80 gig HDD for back ups, mine did not cost as much but gets the job done nicely.

A freind of mine just bought the 17" Toshiba at Best Buy for $1699.00 with a $200.00 mail in rebate. It came with 80 Gig HDD and 512 megs it is a very smooth machine.

My Next Laptop will be the Sony Viao...just my 2 cents :)

I'd second a toshiba lappy. Suggest which ever brand you decide on, you get a wide screen model. I have a Toshiba with a 15.4" wide screen. Great for widescreen DVD's and most web sites. Sony make a good selection of laptops, but as with anything badged Sony, it's generally a bit overpriced.

From my kids who do a lot of research on the subject: Toshiba and Dell in that order. Dell might cost less if the warranty is considered.
