New IE 6 version?

Mmmmmm, I started IE from a fresh boot (version 6.0.2600.00IC) to be exact and my page was redirected to a microsoft site telling me there was a new version of IE that I could download. I thought, "fine, I'll do that" clicked on the link and it took me to what is apparently the same old IE6 download page... (the page's update date was 27 Aug 2001) I even ran Window Update (which is where I usually get IE updates) and no new version mentioned.

So what's the deal, is there a new version out, or is my browser playing tricks on me.

I know I have the "Automatically check for Internet Explorer Updates" setting active in the IE options menu, I want it that way, but why is it telling me lies?

Oh well, it didn't happen after a fresh boot and I'm not too concerned about it really, I'm just curious.

If you use this fix, please remember to backup-by-exporting the hkey envolved before editing. That way you can always restore the original state of this key should the fix prove fruitless and does not solve the problem.

In the least, use PREcaution caution, of having the foreknowledge on the methods and HOW-TO's of backing up the registry and restoring it should the occasion ever arise:
