New Hosts File Hijack

Web sites creating their own Hosts file in a new location:

Charles: In the off chance this might be related to my problem in This thread (still not solved) can you tell me what location these hosts files are created in?

I still can't access www.spywareinfo.com or any of the spywareinfo forum sites or any tomcyote sights.

The location is given as \WIDOWS\Help > look thru the other folders (not many).

In the above link, mention is made of latest beta HijackThis which looks for this exploit.

Really interested to see what you come up with.

Thanks for looking Charles. No luck, no "hosts" entry in the Windows\Help directory or any sub-directory. Did a search for *hosts* as well and came up with nothing unusual or suspicious.

I think the IP is being blocked somewhere down the pipe, not necessarily at my end or spywareinfo's end. Don't know why it's picked on me. If I can find someone else in my area with telus.net dialup I will see if they can connect. Stay tuned.
