Here is my situation, I live in a building that has a deticated DSL line that 4 computers share(3 PC's & 1 iMac). There is a HUB that is connected to a Router in the basement. The first 2 pcs and imac are on the first floor, and the last pc (which is mine) is on the 2nd floor. I need to add another iMac to this network and can not wire another cat 5 from the basement to the top floor. My question is, Can I use an additional Router? If I connected the cat 5 (that is wired through the building to the 2nd floor), from the hub to the 2nd router and then the iMac and 1 pc, will this work?

Yes what you suggested is possible. Simply put another hub or switch on the top floor and wire the existing router straight to it. I assume you meant hub or switch where you say router above.

2 things to watch out for though:

    1. If the existing hub has an UPLINK port, run the cable to the 2nd hub from it. If not it doesnt matter which port you use. If hub 2 has an uplink port you can use it but dont have to.

    2. In some cases, some hubs when uplinked to a second hub will not let you use the port adjacent to it. This is rare but i have seen it and it made me scratch my head for a few hours. This is only if the hub has no uplink port and you use a standard port to do the uplink. So in this case if you used port 1 to uplink, port 2 would not be available.

    Hope this helps
