Local small business has 2 pc's in different rooms. No Internet connectivity. How do you get the 2 pc's to be networked together?

Microsoft's site for help on setting up small networks with XP is a good place to start.
    http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/default.mspx

To connect the two computers you will either have to:
    • run a crossover network cable between the two computers
    • buy a small LAN switch and run cables from the switch to each of the computer - this is more scalable and allows you to add more computers easily
    • connect the computers via a wireless connection. The easiest way to do this is to invest in a wireless access point and then install wireless cards in each computer.
Cable is faster and more reliable. Wireless is more flexible and avoids having to pass cables between rooms.

Another thing to consider is if and how you want to connect to the internet. If you use broadband, it can be a good idea to use a router rather than the switch/wireless access point suggested above.

Have a look through the Microsoft guide, and post back if you need help understanding any of it. Also, if you describe what you are trying to do (share files, printers, internet access or games for example) we may be able to advise you more specifically as to the hardware to use.
