    Hello

I have 3 computers on my network. 2 with Win XP and 1 with Win 98SE. I have a Epson Stylus R310 connected to 1 of the XP machines. The other XP comp can see, install and print to the printer. The 98 Machine can see the printer, but when i try to install it, it tells me me the printer is offline.

    Any help would be appreciated

Question from a problem that I had.

Was the machine that the printer is attached to actually ON ?

I was having the same problem with an HP 5500 . Three machines. ( 1 XP & 2 98SE ) The 2nd SE machine would not even see that Printer let alone show it off line.

PLus with the 5500 attached to this XP machine meant it had to be shared and this machine had to be on in order for others to use it.

I got just plain aggravated and got a 5880. Plugged it into the Router and now it is a Standalone device to each machine. No more of this having to share.

I believe a Print Server serves that purpose also. Then only the Server and the Printer would need to be powered constantly the way my Router and Printer Are.
