I am having trouble... I installed Vista Basic onto a computer and updated all the drivers and did all the upgrading that needed to be done. No programs are incompatible with Vista... We are connected to the internet via a cable modem and it now resets the connection every 5 or so minutes, kicking us off and then turning back on in a matter of 30 seconds. In network and sharing center, if you watch it while all this is happening, it shows that it is trying to connect to 2 connections and then disconnects from both of them, then reconnects to just the single one and it runs fine. I've heard you can mess with the BIOS and fix this, but don't know how. Can anyone guide me to fixing this problem??

I suggest you check all the connections. [No chance of water getting into the cable wiring connections?]

I don't think two connections might be trying to connect at the same time, unless you say, have two Ethernet adapters (my computer has two) and you have them both connected through a router/hub/switch to the cable modem. If your computer has two ethernet (LAN) connectors, one is for the internal (home) networking system, the other is the external (internet) connection. Don't connect both to the cable modem.

I am only surmising, but a networking person may see some merit in my theory. Make a request that this thread be transferred to the Networking Forum if things go cold.

    Other suggestions...
You should be able to request that the ISP checks the line.

I would try uninstalling any ISP programs that are installed, then checking the modem or reading the modem's manual about if it has a reset button. After using that, reinstalling, following the directions carefully.

I have 1 ethernet port on the motherboard... It started the problem and I couldn't figure out anything for it, so I plugged in an ethernet card to see if what you said was true, that the on board one was for home networking... I installed the drivers for the card and did everything I thought to be needed and it still has the same problem... after about 5 minutes of being connected to the net the connection fails, then trys to re-establish to mutiple connections... Local Area Connection, Local Area Connection 2, and Local Area Connection 3... then after diagnosing and repairing, it fixes itself...

I don't know how to request my post being moved, could you help me out with that?

My computer (motherboard) actually has two ethernet adapters, so that should not be a problem for you.

Check your security programs, particularly the firewall, so check that you are not running several firewalls at once.
