Our office has a peer-to-peer network that has grown over the years. We have 8 PC's and 3 printers (connected via "Jet Direct" type interfaces). We use a 10/100 16-port switch, and also have a wireless access point for a couple of laptop connections, and a router to connect everyone to the Internet.

One of the older PC's has been used as a file server, but its hard drive is getting full (and old). I am thinking of adding a Linksys EFG80 "EtherFast Instant GigaDrive - Hard drive array" to replace this unit and give us a larger central storage capability. From what I can see on the spec. sheet for this unit, it looks like it should fit with the OS's in use now (Win 98, Win XP Pro, Win XP Home).

Does anyone have any experience with this type of network storage? Any comments on this type of unit versus a standard PC designated as a file server, or even a "Server" type of computer would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Haven't used this specific device but have used similar ones.

I like it lots better than using a PC/Server for file storage.

Linksys makes solid equipment and the specs on the EFG80 sound good.
