Netscape Mail Won't Open

This morning I tried to open my email using Netscape 7.1. Nothing would happen - I briefly saw the hourglass and then nothing.

I read some boards and tried some solutions (virus scan, check of firewall). On this board, I read one solution which I attempted.

By deleting the chrome folder and the dat file I was then able to click on Netscape Mail and the icon appears but nothing after that. I could not locate the .slt file mentioned as the other file needing to be deleted. If I could find that perhaps my problem would be fixed? Anyone know how to find that file?

Did you look at post #9, from Ramona, on locating the hidden files, if you use Win2k or XP?

 

And which one is post #9? If you could tell me the title, might find it. THe file I can not find to delete is xul.mfl.

Close Netscape and Quick Launch
Delete these two files and one folder:
compreg.dat
Located in: C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\components

xul.mfl
Located in your salted (*.slt) folder

C:\.....\Application Data\Mozilla\profilename\*.slt

chrome folder
Located in your salted (*.slt) folder

My concern is that you said you deleted chrome and dat. Do you mean compreg.dat?

If you deleted the chrome folder, it too is in the *.slt folder. Did you mistakenly delete the chrome folder in the Netscape Programs folder? If so, that is the wrong chrome folder...

 

I dont know what I actually did. But what ended up working was, dowloading 7.2, uninstalling 7.1 and then installing 7.2.

I must have deleted the wrong chrome as you said but another forum suggested the above solution and it worked!
