I upgraded to NS 7.1. IE loads as my default browser. I went to edit>preferences>navigator>set default browser and set home page to NS. The next time I log on, it still loads IE.

My ISP does not support NS 7.01, would that be my problem?

    Hi lbfoto,

Take a look at this page, and see if it helps:
Setting Netscape 7 as the Default Browser

It isn't necessary to use Netscape for your home page if you prefer another. The non support of Netscape 7 by your ISP should make no difference in which browser you use for the default.

Post back if you continue to have problems.

    lbfoto,

What is the application shown in the Registry Key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\Shell\Open\ddeexec\Application

Also check your Registered File types for URL-Hyper Text Transfer Potocol
    Open Internet Explorer
Click on View | Folder Options | File Types
    What is listed there?

    lbfoto,

    To view the Registry key:

    Start | Run
    Type in: regedit
    Navigate to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\HTTP\Shell\Open\ddeexec\Application

What application is listed in the right hand pane? (Most likely IE)

    Don't edit, just look.

Control Panel|Internet Options|Programs; check Netscape as HTML editor. You should have click in the Navigator preferences to make it default. And, most important, uncheck box: that IE should check if it is the default browser. Close Netscape, and then restart it. IE never bother me again, although other browsers have.

    lbfoto,

Hope your trigger finger is in working order! ;)

If you tried each of the workarounds listed on the page I referenced, and all your settings still point to IE as default browser, then let's try this:

    Close Netscape
    Open Windows Explorer
View | Folder Options | File Types
Scroll to: URL:Hypter Text Transfer Protocol
    Highlight the File Type
    Click: Edit tab
    Highlight: Open
    Click: Edit tab

In the "Application used to perform action"
    What is listed there?

Right click and select "Copy" and save the copied path. Post it here for me, if you will. If it is the path to IE, then what we will do is have you replace that entry with the path to Netscape. But first I would like to see what is entered.

    Thanks!

    lbfoto,

It just dawned on me that you posted this same issue a few months ago, and the problem was, after all, the proprietary software that your ISP was using. Your ISP advised:

You will not be able to completely use the Netscape browser version 6.0 and higher with this ISP.

Though you can use Netscape version 6.0 and higher to surf the web, they cannot be specified as the default browser and hence will not launch when NetZero loads.
