    Hi Ya'll :D

Been hoping this board would be back soon - I've got a problem that I'm sure ya'll can help with :)

For the last few days, my bookmark in NS 4.76 to Hotmail hasn't been working.

Click on the bookmark to my Hotmail Inbox and I get a message that I'm being redirected to a secure site (I've left the messages enabled). Then up pops a message that "The document contained no data ". I get the same message when trying to access www.hotmail.com directly.

I have been able to access www.msn.com - got the same error message the first couple times, but now it works - but get the same error message trying to access Hotmail using the link provided there.

I can use IE 5.0 to access Hotmail - but I'd rather not.

I've cleared the memory and drive cache, double checked to ensure Java is enabled (it is), cleared the history, rebooted numerous times. Have set Hotmail to "remember" me and to log me out after every session (had to do this using IE) - no changes with either way. Hotmail's tech support suggested the same things, and that I check their Help section - which had nothing. Netscape's email tech support hasn't answered in three days. Two other boards suggested the same things and that I install NS 6.0 - which I'd rather not do quite yet, I want to give them a bit more time to work out the bugs.

    Your thoughts?

    Hi Cliffh,

Wow, this is great, having the Forum up and running. I was having Netscape delirium tremens!

For your inability to connect to your Hotmail, try this and see if it works:

Click on the Security icon, then the Navigator settings. If both SSL versions are selected, try selecting SSL V2, and not SSL V3.

I'm not at all certain this will work, Cliff, but it's worth a try. You've done all the other steps that I would have recommended. Strange that you can't get to that page. I have no problems with it at all.

    Let us know,

    Ramona

Try saving your ...users\(name)\bookmark.htm file, and cookies.txt, netscape.hst files.

Un-install 4.76, re-boot, defrag and then install 4.76 again. Try hotmail via a search engine, and if all is well, copy or cut and paste your saved files, one at a time. See if that resolves your problem. HTH

Thanks folks. I'm up to my behind in alligators right now, but I'll give your suggestions a shot ASAP.

I received a reply from NS tech support this morning, didn't have time to read it fully, the gist is that I'm not the only NS user having problems accessing sites using MS's coding. They gave a couple suggestions about deleting certain files and setting up a new profile.

I'll be sure to post back with the results.

    Thanks again.

    Cliff,

You might also try this solution, before setting up a new Profile:

    With Netscape closed:

    Back up your Users Folder
    Navigate to C:\Windows\nsreg.dat
    Delete or rename to nsreg.bak

    Start Netscape
Profile Manager will prompt for new Profile

    Use the current/same Profile name.

The new Netscape Registry may help, but if not, you will have to go with a new Profile. It does cure a lot of evils.

You might also have a corrupt cookie for the site. You can edit your Netscape cookies.txt file, deleting any cookies you find for the site. Or if you have a cookie manager, do it through the program.

More and more web developers are targeting IE, and ignoring Netscape, when setting up these sites.

While messing around with this problem - deleting files, changing settings, setting up a new HM account etc. etc. etc. - I noticed that, in the Location bar (after trying a couple of times to access the new account and being bounced back to the sign-in page), the URL ended with =nocookies.

Well, NS has always been set to accept cookies. On a hunch, I changed NS to not accept cookies and closed it. Re-opened NS and reset it to accept cookies. Closed NS again. Started NS, clicked on my Hotmail bookmark and went directly to my Hotmail Inbox.

    Thanks for the suggestions :)

Try editing the bookmark to hotmail to the URL:
http://www.hotmail.msn.com . Netscape doesn't like the redirecting hotmail does at it's www.hotmail.com, whose true URL is the above. If you set it to that, it's directed to the fastest server for you at the time and this should fix the problem.

To edit your bookmark, click "bookmarks," edit, then find the Hotmail bookmark and right click and choose "Bookmark Properties ". In the Location (URL) put in the above address, then click okay.

    It should work. ;)

Thanks for the info :) I'll give it a shot later on.

My current bookmark is set to take me directly to my Hotmail Inbox - which seems to work pretty good now that I've reset the cookies.
