I checked the link you gave above...
well, it says that I could restart in the safe mode or something... but here it won't go past the error message ...
maybeit's the second message that's causing more trouble i.e. "EMM386 not installed - XMS manager not present"
Maybe we need to do something about EMM386 first!!!!

    dmad,

    - Right Click the start button
    - Click Explore
    - Click the C: drive

If you see a file named autoexec.bat, right click it and choose
    Rename
Rename it by overtyping with autoexec.old
    - press the Enter key

Do the same as the above for a file named
    config.sys (rename to config.old)

    - Click the Start Button
    - Click Shutdown
    - Click Restart

Post back and let us know the results. The above will in no way
    harm your PC !
    regards

The problem is that I can't even get anywhere...
The moment I turn the power on, no matter what I press or hold, it goes to "resume from disc in progress, please wait" and then it brings me to the same message....

I tried to download a bootdisc from bootdisc.com
    Nothing happened

Have you got a disk in the floppy drive ?
Have you checked the boot disk sequence in your BIOS ?

    Ha ha ha ha
I know how it sounds but I know that there is a lot of junk in my computer/registry etc etc...

but I had used a program without the help of this forum.... and ended in a lot of $%$... I'm sure people here would suggest tried and tested programs....

I was suggested RegScrubXP for my other computer (the one I'm using right now) and it was great..... but it won't work with win 98.

    thanks

    dmad,
Happy you are up and running. :) Some good work by you there.
I will post you some help for checking your registry soon.
Of course, there is the good old "Regclean" that you probably have already ?
    regards

    Thanks

I don't have regclean either... BTW I saw a lot of negatives for this program on download.com... especially regarding it's use with Windows 98... what do you think?

    dmad,
If you REALLY think you have registry problems, do this ..

    - Reboot in DOS mode via the Start button
    - at the prompt, type
    scanreg /fix
    - press the Enter key
    - wait a while ... 'til it's finished
    - press Enter
    - Press and hold down CTRL and ALT keys then press the Del key

That should restart the PC with a cleaned registry file.
If, after that, you find a file called system.bad on C:
    just delete it,
    regards

If your PC is now working correctly, it is vital that you save
the system registry files - do you know how to do this and do you know how to restore them to get back to a working version of
    Win98 ?
There are many help items on the net, but if you need more help.
    then just post here again.
    regards
