Resolved My harddrive vanished!

hi guys. im here again with another weird phenomenon.

i have two hard drives - one new, has two partitions - C: and E:
another is old, has one partition (un-partitioned) - D:

today my D: just vanished in the middle of watching a movie that was on it.
now, when i restart i cant see D: at all. it is MIA.

but after i do it, then what? what if the diagnostic says there's a fault there? what if it doesnt?

also i found out that my DVD drive vanished as well :O what is going on in there?
they both disappeared at the same time (i just didnt notice this until now that i wanted to burn something).
how can that be?

Have you checked all the connections inside the computer?

It could be a power related issue.

I have seen this happen when a power supply is on its way out.

It would be very strange for both a DVD and a Hard Disk to do an epic fail at the same time.

If you have a multimeter that measures DC voltage it might be worth testing to see if you are getting any voltage at your sata / molex connectors you are using to connect to the drives.

thanks for trying to help, guys, but i managed to solve this issue on my own.
i figured that it might be some connection issues. phisical ones, of course.
i opened the case and started unplugging and re-plugging cables that have something to do with the missing hardware and after unplugging, rebooting, replugging and unplugging others and rebooting i finally got the computer to recognize the DVD and D:. since i have so many cables that are splitting to 2 hardwares it was hard to really see what might be the problem and honestly - im still not sure. i just hope that it wont happen again because even when i unplugged something it always seemed like its being connected really firmly.

what could this be? i dont want it to happen again and maybe next time i wont be so lucky and i wont be able to bring it back?

p.s. - it wasnt a voltage shortage or anything. i couldd see the DVD lighting up and i could open and close it. it had electricity. that wasnt the power supply. it might have been one of the wider grey cables that came out of the MOBO (im not a computer savee so i dont remember the cable's name).

 

It could have been just a bad data connection.

Just because the light on the CDROM flashes and the tray opens does not mean it has the right power. They require both 12V & 5V if it just has 12V the tray will still open.

I would just keep an eye on it and if it does not crop up again then it probably was a bad connection somewhere.

However there could be a problem with your motherboard.

I would just keep an eye on it and hope for the best.
