The problem is that when I insert a blank dvd into my sony-dru500A drive windows media player starts, and when I go to My Computer and look at the drive is shows a audio cd of 1.99GB and properties of the drive shows the disk as full. If I insert a dvd movie it plays normal and the drive shows up normal. I have downloaded a test program from sony and the drive passes all tests. My firstInstant Copy program suddenly will not write to the drive saying only 1byte free yet I have just installed Instant Copy 8 and it is burning to the drive just fine so far. Any suggestions?
My system is- w98se, 120gb serial ata, asus mb, amd 1.8ghz, g-force 4 video card, sony dru500A dual format dvd burner, and a dvd drive.

Faulty Disc? I had a similar probelm with a CD/RW drive, where when I put a new CD in, it came up with an error message saying the medium format was corrupted. Yet I try the CD in another drive, and it worked fine. I figure that some brands of blank CD/DVD simply are not compatible with certain CD/DVD RW drives. I don't know why, or what, but I did try different software on the original CD RW drive, and the effect was much the same. Therefore, the probelm is hardware related. I didn; think it was possible, but the facts stand for themselves. If anyone else has an idea as to what the problem is, I'm all ears - except for my fingers, my eyes, my legs, my ;) , my..........
