    *right click blank area of desktop

    *select Properties

    *click the desktop tab

    *click on the customize desktop button

    *Put a check in the icons you want on the desktop

    *Apply or okay your way out

    Shazam! you got 'em.

    =====================

    As an added headstart:

    Right click on the toolbar and select unlock toolbar

    Again,rightclick on taskbar and select "properties "

    Customize your taskbar and startmenu from here.

    ====

    Right click on "My Computer" icon

    Select properties

    Click on the advanced tab

    There are many buttons here which contain settings for many things that are usually tweaked in various ways for a more slim downed quicker XP performance.

    =========
    After installing xp sp1 which is required before being able to install tweakui (powertoys for XP), tweakui can offer other speed tweaks as well. These can all be had by other means but tweakui sure is a handy thing.

    =============
    Folder options need to be set to allow the showing of system and hidden folders plus Users choice:

    Double click on and open "My Computer "

    From the Menubar up top select
    "Tools "
    "folders options "
    "view tab "

    Check or uncheck as needed.

    ================

    Off to Kellys site to get the "Add copy to" and "Move to" right click folder option:

    Number #45 tweak:
    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

    While here you might want to check out some of his other offerings.

    ==========

    I always add at least a Notepad shortcut to my "Sendto" folder

    Use what ever method you use to get to and copy the "notepad shortcut.

    From the taskbar bar click the startbuton

    Scroll to and select "run "

    Type sendto

    This will open the sendto folder where you can paste a notepad shortcut into.

    ==========
    There are many other things one can do for customization. These are just a few of what I consider the barest basic and should give you a headstart or starting point.

    Don't forget this one:
    Turn off auto restart
    Control Panel/System/Advanced/Startup and recovery
    uncheck auto restart to prevent an endless loop of boots when you are having trouble...
