mwsbar.dll

i have a brand new computer but my sister uses it for msn and opens sites willy-nilly. on startup i am met with the message 'Error loading C:\PROGRA~1\MYWEBS~1\bar\4 bin\MWSBAR.DLL'. spybot i think removexd though. that, ad-aware and a full system scan using norton now find nothing. just the mwsbar pop up is both irritating and worrying.

Please download this version of HJT, Trend is still in Beta form and As it's still in beta we do not want users using it as yet. Still has bugs needing work and we don't want to use regular users as testers.

* Click here to download HJTsetup.exe

• Save HJTsetup.exe to your desktop.
• Doubleclick on the HJTsetup.exe icon on your desktop.
• By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Hijack This.
• Continue to click Next in the setup dialogue boxes until you get to the Select Addition Tasks dialogue.
• Put a check by Create a desktop icon then click Next again.
• Continue to follow the rest of the prompts from there.
• At the final dialogue box click Finish and it will launch Hijack This.
• Click on the Scan button.
  You will notice the [Scan] button will turn into a [Save Log] button. [/b] It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
• Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
• Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
• DO NOT have Hijack This fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Please download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

1. Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
2. Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
3. On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
   • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
4. Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.

Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

1. Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
   IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
2. Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
3. Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan ".
4. AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
   Once the scan is complete do the following:
5. If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions "
6. Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
7. Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
8. Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.

Please post the AVG log and a new HJT log.

i did a scan earlier in safe mode and it froze, i scanned again and got the same results. tracking cookies aplenty, i saved a report but i can't find it now. will my new HJT log suffice?

by the way, i unchecked ehtray.exe again and that stayed unchecked. i was told with files missing that ehtray will eventually vanish. advice appreciated.

again i do an AVG scan and no reports are available. my uneducated guess is while you say ehtray is not malware, spyware (or malware) has attached itself tol it

tracking cookies are found, i apply all items then go to reports

should i check entray before scanning again? your kind advice has been noted and again can only paste a HJT log

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore "), please delete these folders (if present):

C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWEBSEARCH

Reboot

Then see if you still get the error.

if spybot removed parts of it and ehtray unchecked rid the error message. i was told the remaining files would vanish. is that the case? apologies in advance.

I don't understand? Vanish?
The files will not "just" go away. They would need to be remove to no longer be on your system.

If you wish to keep ehtray's process unchecked so you do not get a error message, that is OK. It is not a major windows system file.

MyWeb Search is what is known as adware, if you are not getting pop-up advertisements then the file is just dormant and really no threat.

But it will not just "vanish ".
