MWMW001: Modem Internal Error

Complete newbie using Windows.

Was given a Thinkpad 600E, Win2000. 192M Ram. Installed a Fellowes ErgoTech (it said it was compatible!). The modem has not worked since.

Upon startup get:
"MWME0001: Modem Internal Error "
Primary Code: 5 (0x0005)
Secondary Code: 105 (0x0069)

Line 4426

Click ok, and the message is
"The modem has detected an internal error and cannot continue.

Close any applications that are using the modem and press the Restart Modem button below. "

edit-Have run Norton System works, and the F8 diagnostics. Scheduled and ran a CHKDSK with the Norton CD. All report clear.

Have tried uninstalling the Fellowes "Easy Point" software. Can't. Get "Error: binding to felinsws.dll rc=-1" then " Error binding to femouse.dll "

Tried Reinstalling the Easy Point Software and get a message asking "Are you sure you want to uninstall?

Help! I'm traveling next week and REALLY need to connect.
