This is just a minor annoyance but for the past 6 months, when I start windows98 (I have my computer automatically connect to internet and start windows when I power up), my MSN homepage doesn't load. I just a get a completely white screen except at the top I do get the toolbars and the URL field and in the top left on the white part it says, "y.msn.com/'>here." My homepage is set for "http://my.msn.com/ "

I have to type in "msn" in the URL field and press ctrl-enter to load the default MSN page and then from there click on "my MSN ". Then it works for the rest of the session if I were to click on "Home ". Also, it does work when I close all windows and then open a window again - it will come up with the homepage loaded. And, I just checked and found that if I restart the computer, the homepage loads. And, I shut down the computer for a minute, started it back up and the homepage loads. Evidentally, this problem only happens when I start the computer in the morning or maybe if I shut down for a certain minimum duration. Weird.

Update: After a couple hours in session, I closed all windows and clicked on the icon to open a new IE window, it came up with the all white except "y.msn.com/'>here." again.

I run "Spybot" and "Ad-aware" from time to time. (In which order should I run those two, btw?)

Anybody know how to fix it? Thanks!

Also, while I'm at it, where does the computer keep the different user names that it uses for "auto complete "? When I put the cursor in a login box on ESPN fantasy baseball for example, it puts up a long list of user names that I've used in the past and most of them are obsolete and I'd like to clear them out.

Thanks again! I'll check back frequently hoping for responses...

Try going to the site you want for your Home Page then click
IETools>Internet Options>and click on Use Current.

The user names such as you describe are kept in the registry. The suggested way to remove those names is a remove all remedy, done by turning off Auto Complete. There is another method, get Protected Storage PassView. It is a simple executable, just put it into a folder and run it.
Have you tried a repair of IE? Go to control Panel\Add/Remove Programs, and double click the IE entry, and choose the option to Repair.

That first problem went away. I don't know why or how. Now my computer opens TWO IE windows instead of one and I can't figure out how to fix that. I've even tried running a couple of free software programs like Start-Up Cop but to no avail.

I just found the solution to clearing out the unwanted entries that I descibed earlier. All I had to do was put the cursor over the unwanted entry to highlite it and click "delete ". It was that simple. It also works for removing every single word that you ever searched for at Google that displays when you click in the entry field. Finally was able to delete all that!
