MSN Explorer and IE

Well this may seem dumb, But, I have MSN and use MSN Explorer, I know it is a different browser then IE... ..or is it?
I have IESPYAD downloaded among other things that say they are for IE, So are these not protecting me when I'm using MSN Explorer?

With MSN Explorer being as popular as it is, why do I never see it listed in any of these type of programs?

I'm just a little confused Can someone enlighten me or send me to a site that will explain the difference between the two.

MSN Explorer basically uses Internet Explorer as it's core engine and adds on some bells & whistles so protection that works on IE will also protect MSN Explorer.
