When the computer (ME Operating system) is booted it loads properly and after the desktop icons etc are loaded an error message "MSGSRV32 has caused an error and will now close" Close ... the computer hangs at this point and nothing happens .. the only way to shutdown is to turn it off using the power button. What needs to be done to rectify the problem? There is no indication as to where the problem is other than with the MSGSRV32. Any suggestions? Thanks .. Lily

When that message appears, did you click on the Details button? It gives more info.
You can go to Start\Run and type in Msonfig and press Enter. Uncheck all entries for your AV program and rebooot, and see if the message goes away. If it does, your AV program is corrupt, and you should go to the Quicklinks page below, and go to one of the online virus scans.

    msgsrv32 problem continued...

Thanks markp62. I do not know who installed Me on the computer but I am not given the option of seeing details in the error box. There is not that option in the error message. The ONLY option I have is to click close but that does not work because it is already hung. It says if the problem persists to do a proper restart but that solves nothing. As well, I looked for the Start --> Run as well and that computer does not have the Run so I could not access the msconfig. I went to Safe Mode thinking I might be able to do something there and I did not get the error message but again no Run feature in the Start menu. You corroborated my suspicion of the anti-virus program possibly being corrupt .. I am not sure if I can uninstall it in safe mode... any thoughts on that? As it stands now I can not do anything in normal mode and with the Run feature missing I am limited as to what I can and can not disable in safe mode.

You can activate the RUN function :

    Start/Settings/Taskbar/Advanced

    Check "Display Run "

You may have to do this from Safe Mode

You can access the Msconfig.Exe a different way. Go to Start\Programs\Accessories\System Tools, and then select System Information. When that opens, go to the toolbar at Tools and select the System Configuration Utility. Click on the Startup tab, and you will see things listed as starting up, simply uncheck them and reboot.
You should be able to uninstall it in safe mode.
