I downloaded the upgrade when a notice came up and ran the program. It failed and now I cannot install MSE at all.

There was no warning on the upgrade to uninstall first.

I have gone through the MS process of deleting the registry entries but still no luck.

There is no other security software installed. Recent clean install of Win7 64Bit

Has anyone any further suggestions before starting a support session with MS?

    Thanks

Not seen a problem installing MSE before, have you completely uninstalled the previous version.

There is a slim chance that the download was corrupted, try downloading and installing again.

What is the exact error message that you receive.

When you downloaded MSE did you click on Locales and Languages just below the Download button and select the correct version for your system. You may have got the 32bit version.

    Uninstalled via Add Remove Programs

Error Code 0x80070645 which is a MS generic error code

Downloaded another copy - English - V64bit from MS website

Thinking a repair install of Win 7 might be in order (if there is such a utility)

I have now got an email support session going with MS. Two attempts and no joy

Tried the process of registry entries and then tried installing in Clean Boot mode... Nope.

Problem is, it takes 24 hours for them to respond.

    Stay tuned

MS finally got hold of me.

The downloaded and installed Version 1 and it installed just fine. The tech said that there was a known issue with V2 and the upgrade and that I could rest assured that they are working on it...

Why don't they post that somewhere and give the poor user a chance to download V1 instead of waiting days to respond to multiple emails?

Seems that nobody thinking at MS these days...

If anyone wants V1 let me know and I will send it to you.

He couldn't say - mind you I doubt that he knew as he seemed to be struggling with the process of checking to see if V2 was uninstalled and installing V1. At one point he had to ask what OS I had...
