My son set up MS Word 2000 for columns. Now I have to reset it everytime I need to use it without columns. How can I reset my default to eliminate columns unless specifically requested? I can reset it easily, but it doesn't stay as my default.

Look for a file called normal.dot and delete it. It will be recreated when you open Word and things should be back to what they were.

    Thanks

Thank you for your advice. It worked perfectly. Not that I understand what it did, but it did work. Thank you again.:)

    Barry,
the Normal.dot is the template that MS Word uses as a default, thus it is the "normal" template. I don't know of an option to set columns as a default, although you can modify the Normal.dot template using styles. My guess would be that your son overwrote/replaced the Normal.dot file himself. What he should have done was create a new template for his own use when he wanted to format a document in a specific way (to use multiple column's in this case). Hope that helps.
