Hello and Happy New Year to you ALL !!

Regarding this question, I am running Win98SE and MS Office 2000 (Small Business Edition).

This day's  crisis is this:
Today I installed MS FrontPage 2002 from a legitimately purchased ($170) CD from Circuit City.

During the installation process, I vaguely remember seeing something about "WinXP" and the installation of some of its components. I didn't pay much attention to it but. . . (I thiMk) so far, so good.

Following the installation, I went to the 'Windows Update' site and clicked on the 'Office Update' tab. Since FrontPage installs itself as a part of "Office ", I wanted to see if there were any new 'updates' for FrontPage. Again - so far, so good.

However, virtually every 'update' that is offered is related to WinXP.

My question to you BBS experts is this:
"Will downloading and installing any (or all) of these 'WinXP' thingies s(c)rew any up my Win98SE and "Office 2000" settings??

Enquiring minds (mostly mine) want to know.

    As always - TIA !!

And you want to try to stuff XP updates onto 98 because...?

If they are XP-specific updates, they will at best, do nothing, and at worst, hose your system. At least that's my best guess and certainly subject to change.

    Loved that response:D

One must remember these machines operate with only a "0" or a "1 ". But boy, are they good, and they are fast.:D

I get the Office Updates by typing officeupdate.microsoft.com, which sends me to the Office website. There, I click on Downloads, and from there a link which automatically detects what is needed and, if you have the original licenced cd's, installs it for you (like Windows Update does). Now, however, there is another link on the Downloads page to purchase Office 2000 SP3 on cd. I tried this the first day it was on sale and it supposedly is sending me the cd for no money. I'll be checking the status, as I think I ordered it before they were actually selling it. Free would be nice, though. The cd contains the SR1, SP1, and SP3 (which includes the SP2 updates) packages. That's nice for those like me who are using WorksSuite 2001 and don't need to upgrade.

Boy, do I feel stupid !!

I apologize for being too schtoopid for my own good. I know I should stay away from this computer when I can't keep my eyes open or think straight.

While trying to 'update' FrontPage 2002 from the MS Office Update site, the program was trying to download and install some OFFICE XP stuff, not WinXP.

I have managed to get all of it out, along with FrontPage, so I'll re-install FrontPage later and really pay attention to what it is doing while it installs.

I do vaguely remember seeing something about Office XP during the original install but I can't for the life of me remember what it was. This time I'll be awake. And alert.

Thank you for the posts, guys. If I have any more problems, I'll post back with an intelligent question.

    Thanks again.

I do believe this is much ado about nothing because...

Although it doesn't have XP in its name, FrontPage 2002 is part of Office XP. Product updates will be in the Office XP category.

So just relax and let officeupdate.microsoft.com do its updates. During the process you'll get some Office 2000 updates and some Office XP updates (if you need them).

    Rick,

    Thanks for the post.

I'll let it 'do its thing' but I will pay attention, this time, to what it is doing.
