movie recording ?

    I've been playing with transferring digital video to my cpu. Got the necessary firewire cable, video capture software, and went to burn my movie only to find that my preinstalled Sonic Record Now software won't record MPEG files. Ugh! Are there any freebies that'll work, or any recommendations for a basic (cheap) program? Also, went to use my Windows Movie Maker for the first time, it opens and then I get an error message that it has to close. Windows XP Home and SP2 were pre-installed on the cpu when I purchased it. Thanks

    Update: I found Pinnacle's Studio 9, and it does all I need it to including burning. I'll move my other question elsewhere and see if that gets any responses .
