Hi, I'm not clear on what happened prior to being called over to a friends house to assist with their computer problems, but one of the biggest issues and still is, the mouse will not work. I made sure of the following:
    (1) mouse was plugged in before booting up
    (2) tried different mouses
    (3) after getting into device manager (without the mouse), saw
    no conflicts.
The mouse works in safe mode but not under normal conditions.
The computer boots up what appears to be a normal boot up even though I hear no beep when it does just the hard drive. I did Ctrl-Alt-Del as well as deleted some things in startup (in safe mode) and nothing changed. Any suggestions ?

Have you tried, in Safe Mode, reinstalling the drivers for the
mouse from it's install diskette ?
Have you tried a different com port if there is one ?
Does either autoexec.bat or config.sys try to load a driver that does not exist or is incorrect ?
In safe mode, Control Panel, System delete the mouse and reboot ?
    regards

    Hi merlin,
    Thanks for the reply...I did not think of doing that in safe mode probably because I forgot. the family did hook it up and tried using the mouse through a USB port which did not work either. One of the other issues I was up against along with the mouse problem was the following error messages;
    (1) WCMDMGRL
    (2) MSVCRT.DLL
    (3) CMDNMST
    (4) BTEIN.DLL
    (5) RSTRUI
To add more headaches, three or four apllications pop up such as AOL, anthology, etc. Without a mouse to use, getting rid of them has been difficult. The desktop screen is slightly distorted with it's colors. So I guessed (which is not always to one's advantage), I went into device manager and deleted about 15 things under sound and video. Upon re-booting, the desktop screen pops up but now stops where before when it popped up the Icons followed in the usual manner. I went once again into Ctrl-Alt-Del and now nothing is showing in there either. The hardware wizard did not re-instal anything in device manager. So as you can see, it's been a battle and I'm considering Fdisk/Format at this point.
