I just recently upgraded the power supply (450 W), cpu fan (has a control nob to adjust the fan speed), and added a USB 2.0 high speed controller in my computer. Here is the problem. The monitor just will not get a signal from the computer. I keep getting "check signal" on the screen. (The monitor is a Viewsonic GS790 19 ") Now I have tested another monitor on the computer and it worked. It was an older Acer 15" monitor. I am completely stumped. Should I just call Viewsonic? The monitor was working fine before I upgraded. This is an AMD system with an Asus A7V333 motherboard and an AMD Athlon XP 1900 1.6 Ghz processor. The video card is a GeForce Jaton 3DForce III with 32 MB of memory.

Do you get anything at all on screen? If you get the BIOS screens, and then the screen goes blank going into Windows, it is probably a monitor refresh rate problem. Go into safe mode and correct the problem there.

Check cables of course. Swap cables if you can (power easy, signal may be very difficult).

Have you tried using your 19" monitor on another PC? That will at least tell you if it is a monitor problem rather than an incompatibility between the video card and monitor.

Are you using a power connecter that goes directly from the mains into the monitor, or are you using the one from the computer power supply? With a 19" monitor, you should really be using a dedicated connection to mains power rather than piggy backing off the computer power supply.

Any bent pins or crud on the Viewsonic connector? Can you try the viewsonic on another PC? Do you have another video card to test with?

I would start by putting the old power supply back in and see what happens -assuming you still have it.

    Hi NJTech30.

Check the bios and see if there is a setting for using PCI or AGP on startup and set accordingly. Might have gotten changed.

I get nothing on the screen at all. The only thing I get is a display that says check signal cable. I can't get into the BIOS at all. I have tried putting the old power supply in the case but that did not work. I checked for bent pins and no dust or crud is in either connector. Monitor is plugged directly to a surge protector. Thanks for all your input and advice.

I think you have to be looking at a monitor fault. Perhaps a loose connection that was jogged while you where moving things around to upgrade the system.

If you could check the monitor on another PC that would prove it.

    I'd recommend contacting Viewsonic.
