After using my win98 computer for varying lengths of time, the monitor goes black and the green power light turns yellow. The monitor cannot be waken up unless you turn it off for approximately 15 mins. Power scheme is set to "always on" and monitor standby is "never "

It has been doing this for several months now ...... help

I suspect the problem lies in the monitor - power light > yellow means the monitor is going into standby mode.

The fact that it cannot be roused except by shutting it down for 15 mins suggests a possible temperature problem in the monitor circuitry - a dry joint or a faulty component. I am assuming that you do not shut down the computer also.

If you reboot the computer when the monitor goes into standby mode does the monitor then wake up?

Can you try running it on another computer? That will tell you if it is the monitor itself or settings on your computer (you mention your power settings).

I have just rebuilt an IBM machine that goes into stand-by and can only be "woken up" by pressing the On button, it then takes a few minutes for the hard drive to start.

Thanks guys for your suggestions, rebooting the machine doesn't wake the monitor up, it seems to be purely a length of time that has to pass, tho if you don't turn it off, it will never wake up.

I will take the monitor to another computer and see if that works. Will keep you posted. Thx again.

Unfortunately I think Pete would be right then. Monitor component fault and requires repairs.:(

And if such is the case, keep in mind, that repairing a monitor is often not worth the cost. Hope you find some other reason.

Hi again ..... well I took the monitor to work and plugged in to the box here and guess what? Still goes into standby and won't wake up even with a reboot. Looks like I have a new boat anchor.

Thx for all your help everyone, for your interest the deceased was a 17" Fujitsu TE770B April 2000 build.

    Going shopping now.
