Modem wierdness

    When I shut down or restart my PC, The modem switches com ports(from COM3 to COM4, then back to COM3 and so on). any ideas what is causing this?

    It's probably a software modem. If it works on either, I wouldn't worry about it.

    The problem on this particular PC is that it has a dial-up internet connection that is configured to use a modem on COMx and when the modem is configured to COMx it connects fine, but when restarting, the modem changes to COMy and no connection is available. The only way to connect is to go and reconfigure the internet s/w to connect to COMy or to restart again so the modem will configure back to COMx.
