I'm having a few problems with modem set up.
My external modem (56K Sportster USRobotics) installs just fine, but when it gets to the screen to select Country the drop down list is blank and I can not click on Tone dialing or Pulse dialing. The only then I could enter was my area code.
When I finish that screen and try to dial a number it only calls attention to the dial tone and does not dial.
If I click on add new connection in DUN I get the error it can't start - restart. I uninstalled DUN and reinstalled it and all the above continues.
    Any ideas?

I would also be interested in any ideas here.

My Son-in-law ( near Atlanta Georgia ) has a machine with the same Modem and he also trys to connect and gets the message about no Dial tone.

But he also says the their Dial Tone in general has changed. They pick up any phone and get several clicks before the actual dial tone comes on.

At his point in time I am not blaming the Modem. ( not yet anyway )

I need to state that I DO get a dial tone...apparently the only command sent to the modem when it trys to dial a number is AT D instead of AT DT (tone) or AT DP (pulse)

But on your issue, do you pick up a phone connected to the modem or somewhere else in the house? Do they have a telephone answering service that alters the dial tone if you have a message waiting?

I can not give full details as I would prefer to do as the problem I refer to is 900+ miles South me.

But the way I under stand it any phone in the house get the 3-4 clicks before the dial tone.

I honestly think it is a Telco problem down there.

Those clicks you describe sounds like Call Forwarding has been activated. If the phone line has it working, anyone making a phone call on the forwarded line will hear that before the dial tone. The phone call will be completed. An indication Call Forwarding has been activated and in use, if a phone call came in, the phone will ring once, then go silent, it is then forwarded. I would say it is the phone service, I am assuming Call Forwarding is not actually being used.

I would uninstall Phone Dialer, and then reinstall it. That is what is responsible for Dialing Properties.
