I have an AOPEN56K Modem drivers ver 6.1. It was working fine before, but it now seems to hang up while trying to connect to the internet. The computer recognizes the moden, drivers, I hit connect, it goes into a ring, and then cuts out. I reinstalled the drivers, but to no avail. Any suggestions please

    Thank you

Phone line noise could cause this. Try picking up a phone on that line and pressing a number and give a listen for static.
Another thing to check, go into Dial Up Networking, right click on your connection and select Properties, then click on Server Types, uncheck "Require encrypted Password ", not all ISP's support this.

    Donabano,

Does the ISP modem answer, you should hear a long tone where the modem identifies itself.

My modem would hang up before the ISP's modem would answer. Fixed it by adding two commas ",," after the dialing number. This makes the modem keep ringing until there is an answer.

    In Win98
    Contol Panel>Internet Options>Connections>Settings>Properties

Thank you for your replies. Had a bigger problem yesterday. My main computer crashed out and having 1 hell of a time with it. Nothing is working right. I am borrowing a temporary computer until I get this right.
    Thanks
