Is there any way to get rid of them? I'm having trouble with some programs popping up modal dialog boxes BEHIND the main window so you cannot dismiss the dialog (hidden) and the only way out is CTL-ALT-DEL! Any help would be appreciated!

    Russ,

Not sure what you mean by a 'Modal' dialogue box

Where do they originate from - which programs?

However if these are behind the main window, rather than call up Task Mgr (Ctrl-Alt-Delete) minimise the main window, deal with the modal box and maximise the main window again.

There is a setting in TweakuiXP to prevent programs stealing 'focus'. This may be of some use.

The culprit programs are many. Modal meaning that the dialog box in question MUST be acknowledged before anything else can take place, but since it's buried behind it's "mother" window, there's no way to switch to it. Clicking anything on the mother window only gives a "beep ", which of course, means there is a "child" window somewhere needing attention. Kind of like chasing your tail?

Understand what you say, but you have me floundering on this one!

Hopefully someone else will respond - sorry I can't help.

You really might want to try the "focus" modifications you can do with several of the tweak programs.

Failing in that, you have the choice of getting rid of the offending app (and I can only think of a couple that are bad about doing this) or living with the problem.

But your mention that you have many doing this makes me wonder - it's for sure not normal behavior. Good idea to make sure you are virus free and to run your favorite spyware/malware killer apps - like Ad-aware and Spybot.
