During a recent thunderstorm I lost power,my cable modem and network adapter that is part of the mobo. I am up and running but I can't enter the registry. Could the mobo received more damage to cause this?

What error messages do you receive / what happens when you try?

The motherboard may be OK, but files may have been corrupted on your HD (has happened to me).

If windows is up and running, the registry is there. When you mention 'registry' are you referring to entering the BIOS, or opening Regedit?
