Not sure this is the right forum, but maybe I can be redirected.

I am going to be doing a lot of travelling in the US, and some in Mexico. I thought of buying a wi-fi capable laptop and subscribing to a mobile service, like T-Mobile, so I can keep in touch. I would be interested in hearing of your experiences and any preferences for service providers. Totally new to this area of computing, and don't want to leap in head first.

I think T Moble is the only game in town right now thats high speed.
Most of the cell systems only have a T1 link from tower to tower so their bandwidth would be ate up quickly.
Unfortunately this technology hasn't fully matured yet.
I had a Nextel 64k connection for over a year and it wasnt worth a ****.
    I was lucky if I got 20k.

What ever you go with make sure you test drive it first.

So many businesses are getting free wifi it may be better to rely on them and use the mobile connection for backup.
