    HI,
    I am trying to install a digital camera cd, and I get a note that says....(windows cannot find InstallMgr.exe....this program is needed for opening files) . Is... InstallMgr.exe.... located in the cd that I am trying to load, or is it something missing in my computer. Thanks in advance!
    Peace
    Roy:confused:

    It should be located on the CD, at the root. In other words, not in any folder, but the first thing you see in Windows Explorer when browsing the CD.

    Did you do a Find on the CD?
    If you doubleclick Autoru.Inf, it will open in Notepad, and list what file and it's location it would normally be running.

    Hi kyroy,

    It's been a couple of days and I was just checking to see if you got this figured out yet? How ya' coming along?

    ==A Few Questions If Your Problem Is Still Unresolved==

    *Is this a burned CD or a Store bought "install CD "?

    *Do you have your folder view options set to allow the seeing of all "Files and Extensions "?

    *Do you have tweakui? Is your CD set to autorun when a CD is inserted?

    ==F.Y.I.==
    If a long period of time [more than a day for non system critical quests] has lapsed between your last question and any new responses, kick it back up to the top of board by asking for additional help.

    Sometimes an opened post may slip through the cracks for a variety of reasons.

    And as always:
    Please remember to tie up any opened posts by sharing the final outcome, whether good or bad.

    Hi Ann,
    Thanks for the reply. And no, I have not solved the problem. I will do my best to answer your questions...
    Yes, it is a 'store bought' install CD.......
    I don't seem to have 'folder veiw options' in my veiw toolbar......
    I do not (can't find) tweakui, and do not know how to check if my CD is set to autorun when a CD is inserted.
    I have found autorun on notepad, when I opened the CD in explorer, but do not know what to do then.
    I know I am not much help, but I try to get it done:)
    Peace
    Roy

    Here's what you do to make sure you can find those hidden files when you do a search or are looking for something that may be hidden:
    NOTE* Before doing a "File Find" [key F3 shortcut for file search popup, make sure the directory or drive is in the "Look In" dropdown box and "include subfolders" is checked]:

    Make sure you have the ability to view hidden files by adjusting preference options in....
    1>Click on My Computer icon or if in explorer>toolbar>view
    2>click on toolbars "View" category
    3>click on "Folder options "
    4>click on "View" Tab:
    5>and scroll to the [Hidden Files] section and enable or disable the options below by unchecking or checking as designated:
    "Do Not show hidden files "=unchecked
    "Do not show hidden or system folders "=unchecked
    "Show all Files "= checked
    "hide file extensions for known files "=unchecked

    ============
    The autorun.inf file is pointing to InstallMgr.exe that should be on the CD your looking at. If there dbclick on it to run the CD install menu [that's dbclick on installMgr.

    Workarounds:
    start button>run line>point it to your CDrom Drive and if an Install.*, setup, or run is there run it.

    Could do this the old fashioned way by Startbutton>scroll to "settings "> "control Panel ">dbclick on Add/remove Programs icon>hit the "install button ". With CD in your cdrom drive of course.

    ----------------------
    Tweakui:
    http://www.windows-help.net/windows98/tweakui2000.shtml

    The paranoia tab has option to autorun cd among others.

    or

    Alternative way:
    Through a right click on the desktop "My Computer" Icon>select "properties ">from the device manager popup, b dbclick on your rom drives and on their "settings tab will be an option for "auto insert notification "...check it.

    When you wish to put in Cd for exploring rather than running you can override autorun of cd by holding down the shift keyboard key while inserting.

    Hi Ann,
    Again thank you for your reply....I hope you are patient. The first thing I did was to check that the "include subfolders" was checked in the "Look in " dropdown box....it was. Then I went to 'My computer' .....View....folder options .....view tab.....Hidden Files and then proceeded to mark them as such.....
    "Do Not show hidden files "=unchecked
    "Do not show hidden or system folders "=unchecked
    "Show all Files "= checked
    "hide file extensions for known files "=unchecked
    Then ran through the 3 ways you stated to install the CD in the Cd rom. And I still had no luck..er... good luck that is. Got the same results .....Cannot find =InstallMgr.exe.
    I am about to give it up. What do you think?
    Peace
    Roy:(

    What a puzzle.....Scratching my head..... :confused:

    What's the camera?

    What's the cd software title?

    Slim but it may be possible to download a new setup disk from the net.
    ===============
    All guesses at this point.....

    Is this part of a multipart [bundled software package]?
    For example if there is a CD #1 and when autoran offers a menu with options to install software, it may then require the disk #2 to complete the install. Or perhaps it is a cd meant to run in the background while another application is running. Depending upon a choice made from that main application the 2nd cd will be accessed and used.

    Any possibility that this is not win9x compatible? Perhaps the software was meant for some other Operating System?
    ================

    When in doubt look for the instructions.....

    Is there any text, doc, pdf or readme on the CD?

    Any papered instructions?
    =================
    Exploratory, curiousity........

    Is there any *.exe on the cd at all?

    With the cd in your drive:
    Hit the F3 keyboard key and from the file find popup, type *.exe in the "Named" type_in_field, make sure your CDROM drive letter is in the "Lookin" Field. What comes up on the list?

    ==================
    That's it....at this point I don't even have lint left in my BagOtricks.

    Hi Ann,
    The camera is a cheap one from Vivitar.
    This is the results o f the last task you gave me to do.

    I typed the *.exe in the 'named' with the D: in the 'Look in" on the Find file popup.

    There was Autorun exe, and when I dbclicked it said "a device attached to the system is not functioning "

    There was a Setup exe, and when I dbclicked it said " a required DLL file VERSIOO.DLL was not found "

    There was a ISDel. exe, and when I hit it, it said "The ISDel file is linked to the missing export KERNEL32.DLL:HeapGree "

    Peace
    Roy

    kyroy,

    I don't know what to tell you. Your install from the cd is not running as expected at all. Is the install problem only for this particular cd? Any other unusual errors or behaviors? Any bad device ticks in "device manager "? Not running in dos compatibility mode for cdrom [Device manager>hardware profile tab, I believe]?

    Ran SFC.exe to see if you have corrupted or older versioned overwritten/replaced files?

    Loading a 16 bit driver for the cdrom drive via autoexec.bat/config.sys?

    =======
    Could try copying the cd to a holderfolder [name of choice] and try running it from the hardrive as opposed to the cd.

    ======
    Wave the white flag.....
    Could go to Arcsoft and download some demos of the softwareyou want.... :D

    I'm assuming here, that your camera drivers are installed and your camera "do's" are functioning. If not Vivitar does offer driver and manual [book *.pdfs] downloads.

    ========
    You still haven't given me the specific's on the camera make and model or the software version and title aside from the fact that it's a vivtar digital camera, or I would have offered the links.
